WORDS + gone

Journal Entry: Thu Jul 16, 2009, 8:15 AM

Gone

So I'm out of town right now, and I didn't bring my computer because it has issues and I had to send it in to HP to get fixed. SOOOOOO I have to use my mom's iphone to type stuff. If I don't respond to you quickly, that's why. :c
I'm going back home on Saturday, so I'll be able to respond to roleplays and whatnot on Sunday-ish. Maybe.

WORDS TIME

Courtesy of :iconlurid-ennui:

1. Lamplight: To me, lamplight seems like a calm sort of light. It's the kind of light that you would curl up with a good book and read by (or maybe draw by?) at night when everyone else is asleep. Actually, when I think "lamplight," I think of an oil lamp. Then my mind sort of darts around to street lights, which I usually think of being placed on dark streets where scary people dwell, lurking just past the reach of the lamplight...
See how my mind rambles? That's how rambly conversations with me are, too. XD

2. Nail Polish: I actually don't really like nail polish because I prefer naturally-colored nails. That's why you'll rarely see me wearing it. To me, it's more like cover-up in the way that I use it to hide nasty-looking things. For instance, I dropped a hair dryer on my toe about half a year ago and in February, when it was still there, I had to go to a father-daughter dance and I used dark purple nail polish to cover it up. Even when I get pedicures (which I rarely do, and when I do I go for the massage part. Mmmmm.), I don't get my nails painted.
Oh, and I absolutely HATE it when people wear black/dark blue nail polish. It's so eewie looking.

3. Blackberries: MMMMMMMM. I love blackberries. And luckily for me, at my grandfather's house there's a HUGE wild blackberry bush growing all the way down this big hill. They taste AMAZING!

4. Jingle: The first things that come to mind when I see the word "jingle" are bells. Silver, shiny bells in particular. The second thing that I think of is jewelry. I really don't like it when girls have all those jingly bracelets on their wrists because the "jinglejinglejingle" noise gets really annoying and it's quite distracting from whatever you're trying to do. But I do like bells on some jewelry! Those make a much more pleasant jingling noise.
I have so many (awesome) pins on my backpack/purse that the bag jingles sometimes. c:

5. Trustworthy: Trustworthiness is one of the traits that matters most to me in a friend. I tell a LOT of stuff to my best friends, and I would absolutely die (figuratively, of course) if my friends told any of those things to anyone I didn't want to know them. I'm so lucky to have such great friends who I can trust with just about anything, though. My best friends know just about all of my secrets and everything that goes on in my head-- and I'm completely fine with that because I know that they're trustworthy.
Likewise, I know quite a few people who are NOT trustworthy, and those people are simply annoying and obnoxious. I could name at least one person off the top of my head who thinks she's my good friend, but doesn't really know me that well because she's completely un-tustrowthy. She's also obnoxious in quite a few other ways, but I think it might just be the un-trustrowthiness that makes me dislike her.
I can trust my friends to cheer me up, keep my secrets secret, and not to blab about random stuff that I tell them, and that's why they're so dear to me.

Trades

I have a couple trades that are a few months old that I haven't completed/started yet, and I'd like to get them done this week/next week. The only problem is that I don't know what I'm supposed to draw for some of you! D:
Here's the list. If it has a "?" next to it, please comment telling me what you'd like me to draw for you. c:

I've finished my half for:
-:icon0opsy: ([link])
-:iconiciclewolf: ([link])

Both I and these people haven't finished our halves:
-:icondark-blue-odie: (I don't know what I'm supposed to draw for you! *gasp*)
-:iconinaara: (I don't know what I'm supposed to draw for you! *gasp*)
-:iconpenkit: (I'm supposed to draw either Fizgig, Theo, or Skye.)

Only I owe my half:
-:iconaudaciously: (A picture of her character, Eaa.)

Thanks!

Pre-Summer Updates!

Here are a few updates about some stuff that I haven't updated in awhile. c:

1. Kiriban:
I'm going to have a kiriban at 10,000 pageviews. Hopefully that will happen sometime this summer! Good luck!

2. Commissions:
Over the summer, I'd love to get a few commissions. I'm finally going to have time to draw again (hoorah!), and I'd really like to be able to make a bit of money doing something other than babysitting. I've got a new, updated list of prices below. Hopefully you guys think that they're reasonable!
Click! Click on the letter to send me a note if you're interested in commissioning me.
Prices:

Full Picture: A normal picture will cost anywhere from $10.00 to $30.00, give or take a few bucks; A $10.00 commission would be rather simple, without a lot of complex shading, and without a background; A $30.00 commission would be extremely detailed, with a rather detailed background.
Bust: The price of a bust (a picture of your character from the shoulders/neck up) will vary from $6.00 to $10.00, give or take a few dollars depending on the factors listed above.
Sketches: Depending on the content, a sketch will cost anywhere from 3.00 to 5.00, give or take a few dollars.

Does that seem reasonable? If not, please comment. c:

3. Comic:
Over the summer, I'll be attempting to create a comic (or "graphic novel, as some choose to call it) called "The Dog Days of Summer." Unless I get lazy and/or can't think of a plot, in which case you won't be seeing that. XD

4. Trades:
Um... I hate to poke you guys, but there are still a few people who owe me their halves of trades from a little less than a year ago. I just want to make sure you guys know that. XD
There's a list at the bottom of this journal in case you don't know. Please don't feel obligated to rush your half of the trade if I haven't finished mine.

5. Art:
Anything specific that you guys would like to see me draw over the summer? If so, comment. I like trying out new stuff. Maybe I'll even try drawing some humans? ;D

6. Contest:
Um... since the contest seems to have sparked little interest... I guess I'll have to give out the prizes and move on. None of the watermarks were precisely what I was looking for, though, so I'm a bit reluctant to close it up.
I guess I'll extend it a little more. Hmmm, let's see. I think the new due date will be:
July 4th.

Final exams will be the death of me. x_____x Wish me luck...

Contest (free art for all participants!)

Deadline: July 4th.

Info:
So far I only have FIVE entries. That's pretty sad considering that I've had this up here for a few months... Keep in mind that ALL PARTICIPANTS GET FREE ARTWORK NO MATTER WHAT!

I've been wanting a signature logo-watermark-thing for quite awhile now, and I figure I might as well ask my fellow Deviants to help me come up with one!
So: If you can come up with a spiffy logo-type-thing that I can put in the corner of all my finished pictures, you can win a nice piece of artwork of your choice! That's right- if you win, you can pick one of the types of artwork under the "Commission info" section in my journal and I'll draw it for you!
All participants will get a little picture. Just a little one -- a headshot, perhaps? -- of one of their characters. :D

Here are the guidelines for this little contest:
:bulletred: I'd like the logo to represent me in a way, but if you don't know me then something spiffy looking is just fine. c: Hopefully that leaves a lot of options... XD
:bulletorange: The logo should be original, which means that it shouldn't share many similarities with other peoples' logos.
:bulletyellow: I'd like it if you could save the file as a .png (not to be confused with PSD!)so that its background is transparent instead of white, but if you can't do that, it's okay.
:bulletgreen: You can enter as many watermarks as you'd like. It won't raise or lower your chance of winning, but regardless of how many you enter you only get one prize.
:bulletblue: If you plan to enter, YOU MUST COMMENT SOMEWHERE ON MY JOURNAL/PAGE.
:bulletpurple:

deviantID

Hi! I'm Liz.

When I'm not drawing or fooling around with electronics, I can be found horseback riding, participating in Science Olympiad, chatting or hanging out with my friends, playing Okami or Mario Kart, attempting to learn American Sign Language, doing homework, and watching CSI.
I love forensic sciences, and I spend a lot of my time reading about forensic stuff. c: I'm also rather interested in biochemistry.
I'm a vegetarian.
When I'm on the computer, I like to draw. A lot. I also find it fun to chat with my friends both on here and in ~Shukumei, which is a wonderful, online community full of nice (and very good) artists. In addition to that, I enjoy messing around with html and CSS. I'm not very good, but it's still fun. ;D
I love to draw. Anyone who knows me knows that I draw a lot. I don't always upload all of it here, though, as it's not always DA-worthy, and I'm rather busy and don't always get around to finishing pictures.
That about sums me up, I guess.

Random question: Can you paint landscapes?

--
And if you're bad, God has a place full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

But He loves you.
It depends upon what exactly is in the landscape. I like to think that I can, although I don't really draw realistic rocks very well... and I'm working on semi-realiztic water.

Something along the lines of this: [link]
And this: [link]

These are landscape panels from a 1914 Philadelphia Toboggan Company Carousel. I have something I'm working on that would require some similar scenery panels at some point, and it doesn't hurt to have someone who can do it.

And no, I'm not building a carousel. ;P

Sure, I might be able to something like that. Maybe.
I can't draw/paint ships, mind you. And I might not be able to do ducks very well, either.

Not reproductions of those panels, but generic sorta scenery panels.

Do a a google image search for "WurliTzer Band Organ", and you'll see the painted panels I'm talking about.
